Music sales in Belgium were up 10.5%, rising to €116 million in 2024, announced the Belgian Recorded Music Association (BRMA), which represents music producers and music distributors in Belgium, on Monday.

88% of music sales are digital, via downloads and streams. Digital sales climbed 14.6%, to €102.2 million. Streaming reached the €100 million mark for the first time: it is the main driver of sales growth.

In contrast, the physical market continues to shrink, to €14 million, less than 12% of the market's entire sales. CD sales have been on a downward trend for some time, but in 2024, sales of vinyl records also fell by 6.5%, to €9.25 million.

Last year, the BRMA worked with the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an international non-profit organisation representing the music industry, to "improve Belgian market reporting by implementing economically weighted, hit-list-based coverage rates for digital formats."

The figures for 2023 have been revised: the total physical and digital market size according to the new methodology was €105 million and not €118 million as previously calculated.
