Around 28% of Belgians are interested in leasing a bicycle through their employer, according to a survey of 2,000 employees conducted by HR services company Acerta and Indiville.
Of the workers interested in professional bicycle leasing, half of them (49%) are prepared to lose a maximum of €20 net per month for this purpose. The others are willing to make a larger contribution or would be prepared to pay an existing bonus or premium, says Acerta.
"Bike leasing is exempt from the advantage of any kind,” said Acerta consultant Michaël Zahlen, referring to an advantage granted by an employer that is considered professional income.
This applies even if the bike is used for journeys from home to work, giving it “a competitive advantage over the car.”

Although the law does not allow for settlement through their gross salary, civil servants (30%) are more in favour of leasing than blue-collar workers (28%) and employees (27%).
Nearly one in five employees (18.7%) already receive a bicycle allowance, which is exempt up to €0.24 per kilometre travelled between home and work, Acerta said.
