Six out of ten Belgians fear the outbreak of a new world war.

This finding comes from a survey conducted by research firm Kantar among 1,060 Belgians, commissioned by media De Zondag, Knack, and Trends. De Zondag is releasing the initial findings, with Knack and Trends to follow with more results.

62% are worried that a third world war could break out, with a quarter saying they are “very worried”. Concern is higher among French-speaking Belgians at 74% compared to the Flemish at 56%.

More than half fear that a potential war would reach Belgium. Nearly two-thirds are concerned that nuclear weapons would be used in such a conflict.

Young people are more fearful of a possible war compared to those aged 55 and over. About 12% already have an emergency kit at home.
