The Federal and local road police will organise a new speed enforcement marathon across Belgium, starting Wednesday at 06:00.

For 24 hours, road users in Belgium will face heightened speed checks. This marathon marks the 22nd edition of the initiative.

The main objective is to encourage drivers to moderate their speed and comply with speed limits at all times and places.

Excessive speed remains a leading cause of road accidents. During the last speed marathon in November, just over 3% of drivers checked were speeding.

Fifty-six drivers had their licenses revoked. In April 2024, twice as many drivers (6%) were caught speeding.
