Meals from the Antwerp-based company Foodmaker are now available in 3,300 supermarkets in Germany.
The supermarket chain REWE is offering the products after a successful test in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Foodmaker announced on Friday.
According to Lieven Vanlommel, the founder and CEO of Foodmaker, the launch in North Rhine-Westphalia was a great success. He stated in a press release that demand for healthy and sustainable meals has significantly increased, and noted that German consumers are placing more value on natural ingredients and transparency about origins. REWE has selected eight products for nationwide sale.
To meet the growing demand, Foodmaker has installed additional production lines in its central kitchen in Westerlo. There, 350 employees now produce 100,000 meals per day, 30,000 of which are destined for Germany.
In Belgium, Foodmaker products are sold at Delhaize, in the Netherlands at Albert Heijn, and in France at Monoprix and Franprix.
The company also operates around twenty of its own restaurants and plans to open similar establishments in Germany “in the coming years”.
