Two people have been injured in an accident involving a crane in Maasbracht, in the Dutch province of Limburg. The extent of their injuries is not yet clear, but they have been taken to hospital in Maastricht.
The safety region has reported that the broken-off crane is no longer a danger and is stable.
The accident occurred when the tower crane broke in half and fell onto the deck of a work ship below. The cause of the incident remains unclear. The Labour Inspectorate has been called in to investigate, according to a spokesperson for the safety region.
One of the two people who was injured was about halfway up the crane at the time of the accident. He was rescued by the fire brigade. It is not yet clear where the other injured person was at the time of the accident.
The tower crane was stabilised by the fire brigade. After further danger was ruled out, an external company was asked to recover the crane.
Due to the accident on Industrieweg, a large area was cordoned off and a trauma helicopter, several ambulances and fire engines were called out.
