Despite a ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian forces launched new attacks in Ukraine overnight from Saturday to Sunday, reported Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday morning on the platform X.

By 6:00 local time, there had already been 59 Russian bombardments and five assaults by Russian units reported at various points along the front line, according to Zelenskyy.

On Saturday, between 18:00, when the truce began, and midnight, 387 shellings and 19 Russian attacks were recorded. Zelenskyy noted that Russian forces deployed drones 290 times during this period.

President Zelenskyy stated that the Russian military is attempting to create an impression of a ceasefire. However, isolated attempts to attack Ukrainian forces persist. He affirmed that the Ukrainian military is “responding” to these assaults and reiterated a proposal for a longer, 30-day ceasefire.

Russia unexpectedly declared a unilateral 30-hour ceasefire for Easter on Saturday, citing humanitarian reasons according to President Putin.

The ceasefire announcement came a day after U.S. President Donald Trump increased pressure on peace negotiations. Trump warned that the United States would “very soon” divert its attention to other matters if Moscow and Kyiv fail to reach an agreement.

A month ago, a Trump-proposed unconditional 30-day ceasefire was rejected by Putin. However, there was an agreement to refrain from attacks on energy infrastructure, which has since not been honoured.
