The release of autopsy photos of Robert F. Kennedy following his assassination in 1968 has sparked a disagreement between two of his children, including a recent health minister under Donald Trump.
Previously classified files on Robert Kennedy’s assassination, who was the brother of President John Kennedy assassinated in 1963, were released on Friday after President Trump signed an order upon returning to the White House in January.
Kerry Kennedy, one of Robert’s daughters, expressed her “pain” on Saturday regarding the publication of the autopsy photos in these files. She commented on social media platform X that remembering her father “will be even more difficult in a new and unimaginable way” and lamented the explicit images of his mutilated body.
In contrast, her brother Robert Kennedy Jr, currently serving as Donald Trump’s health minister, supported the publication. “The public interest in a full release outweighs that of our family,” he told the Washington Post on Friday.
However, he acknowledged facing a “terrible choice” when Donald Trump asked if the autopsy photos should also be released.
Kennedy’s appointment stirred controversy due to his anti-vaccine and conspiracy theory statements.

He reiterated to the Washington Post that he does not believe the official account that Sirhan Sirhan, a Jordanian-Palestinian serving a life sentence, fired the fatal shot.
Robert Kennedy Jr added that he did not expect the files to corroborate his theory that the CIA was involved in his father’s death.
Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, responsible for the publication, argued the necessity to “finally shed light” on the senator’s death, who was previously the Attorney General and a strong Democratic contender for the presidential nomination. The release of 10,000 pages of documents on Friday will be followed by another 50,000 pages found “in FBI and CIA repositories,” she stated.
The last files related to President Kennedy’s assassination were released in March, while those concerning the 1968 assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King are expected imminently.
