For the fourth Tuesday this month, train traffic in Belgium will again be disrupted on 22 April due to a railway strike. The strike is being organised by the five trade union organisations against certain measures in the Federal Government coalition agreement.
The five union organisations (ACOD Spoor/CGSP Cheminots, ACV/CSC-Transcom, VSOA-Spoor/SLFP-Cheminots, OVS/SIC and ASTB/SACT) are protesting against a series of reforms the Federal Government wants to implement. These include an increase in the retirement age and savings in the entire sector.
As a result, fewer trains will run from 22:00 on Monday until 22:00 on Tuesday.
Specifically, two in five IC trains (between major cities) will not be running, and neither will two in five local L and suburban S trains. Few peak-hour P trains will run during the morning and evening rush hours.
The alternative train service will be visible in SNCB/NMBS' online journey planner, via the app and website. Train passengers are advised to prepare their journeys in advance and consult the journey planner regularly.
International disruption
International railway traffic will also be impacted. While all TGV INOUI, Eurostar, ICE, and OUIGO trains will run on Tuesday, some EuroCity and Eurocity Direct trains have been cancelled between Belgium and the Netherlands.
A quarter of EuroCity trains have been cancelled, while only half of Eurocity Direct trains are running. Find more information on which trains are running on the SNCB/NMBS international website.
SNCB/NMBS will continue to provide assistance to passengers with reduced mobility during the strike, based on the alternative train service.
