Shooting in Brussels Northern Quarter - one person seriously injured

One person was seriously injured in a shooting incident in Brussels' Northern Quarter on Monday afternoon, confirmed the Brussels North police zone. The victim's life was initially in danger, but this is no longer the case.

The police were called to a shooting incident on Rue Allard in the municipality of Schaerbeek at around 17:20 on Monday. One victim was immediately treated by the emergency services.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the victim's life is no longer in danger. "According to the initial findings of the investigation, the incident appears to be related to the sale of drugs," said spokesperson Martin François.

In the interests of the ongoing investigation, the Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office will make no further comment.

CCTV footage shows panic breaking out on a terrace after the shooter appears, followed by unknown people holding a sword and a club.

Following the incident, traffic in the Northern Quarter was disrupted by the judicial perimeter on Monday afternoon and evening. An investigation has been opened.
