In response to the Federal Government’s reform of long-term unemployment benefits, the united union front has called for a national CPAS Day of Action, featuring strikes and a demonstration in Brussels on Thursday.
The CSC Public Services had already planned a day of action in Walloon CPAS for the same date, 24 April.
Although limiting unemployment benefits was part of the government agreement, the hasty implementation has thrown CPAS into a significantly complex situation.
This is because there has been no consultation or preparatory phase, all within an already challenging context, lamented the Brussels CPAS Federation on Tuesday. The federation fully supports the workers’ observations and demands during the strike.
The Brussels Federation demands immediate and comprehensive discussion with all Federal Government ministers involved in CPAS matters. It urges the abandonment of the "bonus-malus" financing project, arguing it unfairly penalises CPAS dealing with those furthest from employment.
Additionally, it calls for delaying cumulative measures impacting CPAS, as such a significant reform requires careful consideration and support.
