About twenty restaurants in Brussels will participate in the city’s first competition for the best vol-au-vent from 1 to 31 May, announced the non-profit organisation BXLove on Tuesday.
The competition celebrates Belgian cuisine by showcasing the vol-au-vent, a classic traditional dish, and the skills of the capital’s restaurateurs, the organisers stated.
Participating restaurants include Belga Queen, Lola, and La Taverne du Passage. Members of the public are invited to vote using a QR code available at the participating venues. The full list of these venues will be posted on www.lemeilleurvolauventdebruxelles.be starting Wednesday.
A jury comprising Clefs d’Or hotel concierges, journalists, influencers, and local personalities will also evaluate the dishes, assessing aspects such as the quality of the pastry, the chicken preparation, the sauce’s richness and mastery, and side dishes like fries, meatballs, and mushrooms. Esteemed chef Christophe Hardiquest is the culinary ambassador for this 2025 edition.
The winning restaurant will be awarded the title of Best Vol-au-Vent in Brussels 2025. Last year, BXLove organised a competition for the best carbonnade, which was won by Brasserie Ommegang, located near Brussels’ Grand Place.
