A Belgian tourist tragically drowned in the marina of the Spanish city of Alicante over the weekend, as reported by the news site TodoAlicante.
The incident occurred on Sunday shortly before 22:30. Witnesses stated that the man his sixties fell from his boat, hit his head, and ended up in the water.
A German couple on a nearby boat noticed the incident after hearing unusual noises. They used a torch to investigate and discovered the body floating in the water.
The couple retrieved the man and attempted to resuscitate him, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The victim was a regular visitor to Alicante and was familiar with neighbours at the mooring. The German couple noted that he smelled strongly of alcohol during the resuscitation attempt.
Security camera footage showed the man struggling to walk just before his fall. Police have confirmed it was an accident.
