A 10-year-old girl was killed and her father was seriously injured when a major house fire broke out last night in Leopoldsburg, in the province of Limburg.
It is not yet known how the fire was started, according to HLN. When the fire brigade arrived, the house was already ablaze.
“When I arrived on the scene, the emergency services were trying to resuscitate the girl. Unfortunately, she did not survive. The father had already been taken away with severe burns,” Acting Mayor Marleen Kauffmann told HLN.

The adjacent house was also significantly damaged, but neighbors have stepped up to offer accommodation and so emergency shelter did not need to be provided.
Only the father and his daughter were home. The stepson was not staying at the house that night and the mother was at work.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
