The Brussels region will be spending around €500,000 on 40 projects to support LGBTQ people and single-parent families.
Secretary of State for Equal Opportunities Nawal Ben Hamou made a call for projects in July after a substantial increase in the Equal Opportunities budget in 2021.
Nearly €280,000 will go to support 30 projects for the inclusion of LGBTQ people, including the Plan F centre for family planning that will receive around €10,000 to set up a medical co-consultation for trans people in family planning centres.
Around €15,000 will be allocated to the non-profit organisation O'Yes for its ‘Go to Gyneco’ project, to the #WECARE project supporting the health of LGBTQ people, and to the ULB AIDS and Sexuality Observatory for the implementation of inclusive and intersectional practices in health care.

The Rainbowhouse will also receive a total of €33,500 in support of the organisation of the L-Festival and its All Genders Welcome campaign.
“Beyond this one-off call for projects, the next plan for the inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people, which will be definitively approved by the Brussels Government at the beginning of 2022, also provides for increased support to the voluntary sector,” said Nawal Ben Hamou.
Support for single-parent families
Ten of the winning initiatives will be sharing €212,500 for projects that aim to enhance the image of single-parent families, highlight their daily struggle and raise awareness of the issue of single-parenthood as a gendered issue.
Ben Hamou said in a press release that the aim is to help “fight against gender stereotypes and stereotypes linked to parenthood through awareness-raising and training, and enhance the commitment of men in their role as fathers in order to fight against paternal disinvestment, a major source of the problems experienced by single-parent families.”
