Tens of thousands of demonstrators from across Europe are expected to descend on Brussels streets on Sunday to “broaden the debate” in the context of the health crisis.
The initiative is taken by Europeans United with members from all over the European continent. While not denying the coronavirus pandemic per se, the group says on its website it is "against disproportionate measures that violate human rights."
The demonstration is expected to start at 12 midday at Brussels’ North Station, and continue to the Cinquantenaire Park, where speeches will be held.
The Brussels capital police zone has authorized the demonstration Belga News Agency reports, and are preparing to be present in large numbers with assistance from the federal police.
Meanwhile, the President of Europeans United, Tom Meert, is clear that the group is apolitical while also calling for participants to “walk in peace without violence or obstruction.”
