The Flemish Government decided on Saturday afternoon to send humanitarian aid to Poland to help it provide assistance to Ukrainian refugees there.

Flanders will send aid to Poland, among other countries, to help with the reception of refugees, regional Minister-President Jan Jambon's spokesperson Olivier Van Raemdonck confirmed on Twitter.

"It is also being considered what useful material Flemish companies can supply to Ukraine itself. The Flemish government condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the strongest possible terms," Van Raemdonck wrote.

Poland announced on Saturday that it had already taken in 100,000 Ukrainian refugees who fled the ongoing conflict in their country.

The Flemish Government also stated that it supported the sanctions Europe has decided to impose on Russia following the invasion and was therefore suspending all authorisations for the export of “dual-use” goods, meaning those that could be used for both military and civilian purposes.
