Charleroi’s Palais des Beaux-Arts (PBA) should have a fully renovated room at the Hangar by yearend, PBA Director Pierre Bolle said on Friday, Belga News Agency reports.
Work on renovating the room began early this year. When completed, it will have a seating capacity of 340 people, and a standing capacity of close to 700, according to Bolle.
The Hangar, an industrial building dating back to the early 20th Century, was placed at the disposal of the PBA by the City of Charleroi a few years ago. However, its equipment was limited, based essentially on temporary structures.
The current works will provide the room with heat and sound insulation, restrooms, and stage equipment while the concrete roof slab will also be repaired, Bolle said, adding that he was happy for the additional infrastructure.
“It will be a really comfortable, welcoming and very multidisciplinary space for stage arts, which will enable us to better rationalise the use of our infrastructure,” the Director said.
The renovations cost a total of €1.8 million, VAT included, financed from the PBA’s own funds.
