Given the increasingly frequent heavy rains and floods that swamped parts of Belgium last summer, the Commune of Incourt, in Walloon Brabant, has decided to grant a special allowance to people living in flood-prone areas, La Libre Belgique reported on Saturday.
The aim of the allowance, which can be disbursed up to 18 months retroactively, is to protect property against water incursion, Belga News Agency reports.
"The commune has not forgotten the events of last July," while knowing that we have had tremendous luck compared to neighbouring communes,” Mayor Léon Walry said.

Applicants for the allowance must submit a complete proposal to the municipality to obtain the equivalent of 50% of the total invoice of the works done or the equipment installed, up to a ceiling of €500.
The regulation still needs to be approved by the relevant authorities before it can take effect.
