Delfine Persoon beat French boxer Elhem Mekhaled on points, to take home the vacant WBC silver super featherweight title on Saturday in Dubai.
The fight was initially scheduled to take place last weekend, but was postponed following the death of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Belga News Agency reports. The government declared an "official mourning” for a period of 40 days and three days suspension of work.
This victory will now pave the way for the Belgian boxer - who also works as a policewoman - to fight for the WBC title against American Alycia Baumgardner.
