On the Colonel Bremer square in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek, a man in his fifties was stabbed in the throat around 18:45 on Sunday.
A few hours after the attack, five suspects were arrested in France. The victim is still in a critical condition.
"The exact circumstances are not yet known. It seems like these were events on the fringes of a wedding within the Syrian community," said Martin Francois of the Brussels public prosecutor's office.
The Brussels North police zone (Schaerbeek, Evere, Saint-Josse) also confirmed the stabbing to Bruzz, but could not give further details about the circumstances.

However, several hours after the incident, five suspects were arrested in France. "After a chase involving a helicopter of the Federal Police, the suspects were caught," Francois stated.
All five were arrested and questioned in France. "In the meantime, the procedure to issue a European arrest warrant was started in Belgium."
