Through an Open+ Bibliotheca system, the French-language Bruegel Library is now accessible at times when a librarian is not present, including at weekends.
The extended access, which was inaugurated on 1 June, gives visitors an opportunity to work or study in the quiet spaces, use the computers and check out materials, according to a City of Brussels press release.
The newly introduced system gives those with a registered library card the ability to access the library until 22:00 every day, including Saturdays, when the library is only staffed till 12:00, and Sundays, when it is usually closed.

In order to have a registered library card and be able to use the library after hours, a charter outlining rights and responsibilities needs to be signed.
Video surveillance and security systems continue to operate during these extended times. The number of library members present at the library at one time is automatically counted.
