Belgian consumers are increasingly more optimistic than in recent months, according to the National Bank of Belgium.

Having dipped drastically in March due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Belgian consumer confidence is on the up for the third month in a row.

On Wednesday, the bank revealed that the indicator used to measure consumer confidence in Belgium currently stands at -11. Up from -13 in the month of May and 16 in March.

Despite this, the consumer confidence remains below its long-term average, with only a third of the steep fall-off in March having been reversed since.

Moreover, there have been increased fears about a rise in unemployment. For the indicator linked to unemployment, a rise indicates a deterioration while a decline indicates an improvement. In the month of May it stood at 10 and it now stands at 12.

On the brighter side, households are more positive about their savings intentions for the next year, with the current indicator standing at 7 compared to 4 in May.
