On early Monday evening, Brussels' Fire Brigade was called to the Annie Cordy Tunnel due to a burning vehicle between Place Sainctelette and the Koekelberg Basilica.
The tunnel, that went through a name change in May, had to be closed to traffic in both directions because of the fire.
According to Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels fire brigade, the occupants of the car that caught fire, as well as the occupants of two other vehicles, were able to reach safety via the tunnel's emergency exits, which were installed during a recent renovation.

He also confirmed that no one was hurt in the incident and that traffic heading into the city would be restored soon.
However, traffic had to be diverted in the direction of the Basilica for a longer period of time while emergency services intervened, the car was repaired, and the tunnel installations were checked.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
