The Belgian Federal Government has approved a new B-FAST shipment of aid material to Ukraine, the FPS Interior announced in a press release on 15 July. The shipment will consist of 11 trucks, which will bring medical equipment, basic supplies, and medicines worth over €800,000 across the border to Ukraine.
This latest shipment of one of 30 that the Belgian government has already sent to Ukraine and neighbouring countries. The contents of the shipment include support equipment (tents, cots, sleeping bags), food, generators, personal protective equipment (FFP2 face masks, firefighting equipment), personal hygiene products, and medicines.
The aid package is being supported by various Belgian private companies and government bodies, such as Fluxys and Elia. The private sector has contributed a significant amount of materials and vehicles for fire-fighting, as well as equipment for maintaining Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, health system, and food supply.
Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Belgian authorities have sent some €10 million in essential supplies to Ukraine and refugee host countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky has recently appealed to the international community for increased aid to help rebuild Ukraine.
According to Ukrainian authorities, some 1,027 towns and villages had been liberated from Russian control since the start of the war, however the damage inflicted to Ukrainian infrastructure has been massive. The cost of rebuilding Ukraine, the Kyiv government believes, will be around $750 billion.
At the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano, Switzerland in July, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal suggested that Belgium may lead investments in the recovery of Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv region, which borders areas of Russian-occupied Kherson.
