A total of 1,082 businesses went bankrupt in Belgium in June 2022, a 14.7% increase compared to the previous month, the Belgian statistical service, Statbel, reported on Wednesday.
Compared to June 2021, this was an increase of 75.9%. Compared to the same month in 2019 – before the Corona epidemic – it represents a 6.7% increase.
The last time there were that many bankruptcies was in September 2019.
In each region, the number of bankruptcies filed last month was higher than in June 2019 or June 2020.
In Flanders alone bankruptcies totalled 612, 39.7% higher than in June 2019, marking the first time since October 2013 that as many bankruptcies were registered in the region.
