The Sapphire House Antwerp hotel has reached an agreement with local residents in legal proceedings they had initiated against the five-star establishment located in the centre of the Flemish capital.
The “further, unimpeded operation” of the hotel is now guaranteed, its management said on Friday.
A complaint from local residents recently resulted in the Council for Permit Disputes suspending the operation of Sapphire House Antwerp and imposing a penalty of €10,000 per day on the hotel if it remained open and the plaintiffs could prove through a bailiff that it did.
The hotel then entered into talks with local residents while it simply remained open.
“The noise nuisance experienced by some neighbours was addressed by the hotel by immediately setting the relevant installation (air conditioning) at a reduced capacity, after which a final solution was worked on,” the hotel said.
Sapphire House Antwerp was opened a few months ago and is attached to the renovated Handelsbeurs complex. It is a Mariott Autograph Collection hotel and belongs to the portfolio of the Odyssey Hotel Group.
