The food and drink festival ‘Hapje-Tapje’ in the centre of Leuven attracted about 60,000 visitors on Sunday.
Due to the pandemic, Leuven had to do without Hapje-Tapje for two years, but on Sunday, it was reported that 60,000 attendees were back and enjoying a variety of food and drinks, much to the delight of the city's Culture and Events Councillor Denis Vandevoort and Kris Peeters, organiser of Leuvenement.
Raffat, a Pakistani restaurant on the Naamsestraat, served the finest snacks having won the event's press prize as well as the trophy for the most beautiful stand.
On the Oude Markt, there was a beer market where tourists could sample more than eighty unique brews.
"The 32nd edition was a home run," Leuvenement's Kris Peeters stated. "At De Layensplein, you could also sample Leuven handicraft and on the Grote Markt, some of the city's famous establishments showcased their distinctive cuisine. It was a top notch day."
This year, the organisation went above and above to ensure the visitor's comfort, including offering zones for guest to relax, where they could get a breath of fresh air and taste their food in solitude.
"Everywhere there was a welcoming attitude," Denis Vandevoort adds, with "everyone thrilled that the world's oldest and largest gastronomic one-day event could be held again."
