From 1 September, 84 Flemish schools will begin a three-year partnership with a local art academy to improve the teaching of art and culture in schools.

As confirmed by the Flemish Education Minister Ben Weyts, this cooperation will allow schools to expand their arts and culture education while academies would reap the benefits of educational knowledge granted to them by schools.

This is part of the Flemish Government's 'Art Cure' programme, which encourages primary, secondary, and higher education schools to collaborate with part-time art education institutes.

It is also hoped that the scheme will make it easier for children and young people with artistic talent to find their way to an academy, even if they come from underprivileged families and are less exposed to part-time art education.
