The drug test taken by Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin on Friday turned out to be negative, the Government of Finland reported on Monday.
The test followed the controversy over a leaked video showing the prime minister dancing at a party. The 36-year-old Prime Minister said she had been drinking but denied that she or anyone at the party had taken drugs, as some of her detractors alleged. Following the drug-use allegations, however, she decided to take the test. She paid for it herself and the test statement was signed by a doctor, according to her website.
“I have never used drugs in my life,” the prime minister said at a press conference on Friday. She pointed out that she was an ordinary person and had the right to use her free time just like everyone else.
In the video, circulated on social media on Thursday, Marin could be seen dancing and singing in a private home, together with famous Finnish friends. Critics dubbed her partying inappropriate for a government leader, but many Finns have expressed support.
It is unclear who made the images public. A second video followed on Saturday, showing the prime minister dancing in a club with Finnish singer Olavi Uusivirta.
