The gardens of the Grand Hospice in Brussels will host an event organised by the Tourist Office of the French city of Rennes on 9-10 September.
The aim is to introduce Brussels residents to French gastronomy, art of living, music and a few Breton games.
On Friday 9 September from 6:00 p.m., a chef from Rennes will cook in a container dedicated to Breton cuisine while the guinguette in the Pacheco Institute Gardens will serve a beer offered by the city of Rennes.
A DJ will remix famous Breton songs for the occasion while a pétanque track will be devoted to the palet breton (butter biscuit).
On Saturday, a food market to be set up in the two gardens of the Grand Hospice will offer street food from Rennes with sausage patties, seafood and kouign-amann (Breton cake).
Musical, cultural and children’s activities are also programmed.
Participants in the event include about 15 cooks and pastry chefs united in a collective called “Foods,” whose motto is: “For a human, sustainable and vibrant gastronomy.”
The city of Rennes has the particularity of being committed to “eating well.” Advocating “food democracy,” it seeks to promote access to sustainable food for all, build a food citizenship by reconnecting agriculture to the territory and its inhabitants, preserve natural resources and promote well-structured agriculture sectors.
In October 2021, a delegation of chefs and brewers from Brussels, led by the capital’s tourism office, had, in the same spirit and promoting the same values, flown the gastronomic colours of the capital at two culinary events in Rennes.
The idea behind that trip was to promote Brussels’s gastronomy abroad.
