Germany is ready to send more than €500 million worth of additional weapons to Ukraine to help it to resist the Russian invasion, a spokesman for Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday.
Kyiv will receive, among other things, three additional IRIS-T anti-aircraft systems and a dozen Bergepanzer tanks, the spokesman said.
Scholz, who is traveling in Canada, recently promised even more large-scale financial and military aid for Ukraine.
Germany had struggled earlier this year over whether or not it would send weapons to Ukraine. As a result, it took a long time before the country could finally send in military aid, which sparked criticism at home and abroad.
In the meantime, Berlin has already sent a great deal of weapons to Ukraine, including 15 GEPARD antiaircraft gun vehicles, 10 self-propelled howitzers, several armoured vehicles and hundreds of portable anti-aircraft systems.
