From today, mobile provider Proximus will scrap its “favourite apps” feature, which allows customers to subscribe to unlimited data packages for certain apps, regardless of the limits of their mobile plans.
Previously, users would be able to use apps such as Facebook, Twitter, or Spotify without eating into their data. This feature has fallen foul of the European regulator, who says that it posed problems regarding the neutrality of the service.
New EU regulation prohibits the unlimited use of certain apps free of charge. As a result, Proximus has announced the end of the benefits. “From 01/09/2022, the unlimited surfing amount for ‘favourite apps’ will be replaced by additional data valid for all apps and surfing: +1 GB for Mobilus S and +2 GB for Mobilus M,” the operator announced.

Last July, Proximus axed its Epic subscriptions, which provided similar unlimited data usage for certain apps for young people.
In March, the mobile operator significantly increased its prices in response to inflation. The cost of its packages rose between €3- €4. These increases were criticised by Belgian consumer group Test Achats, who blamed the price increases on a “flagrant lack of competition.”
