The city of Antwerp welcomed two million visitors during the summer, which represents a 34% increase on last year.
These figures were announced by Koen Kennis, the city's Tourism Councillor, who declared that "our city is once again proving itself to be the top tourist destination, after a difficult period during the pandemic."
Of these visitors, three quarters of them came from Belgium, mostly from Wallonia. Where as half of all foreign tourists, who made their return to Flanders this summer, came from the neighbouring countries of France, Germany and the Netherlands.

The numbers also showed that hotel occupancy rates were boosted by The Tall Ships Races sailing event, the electronic music festival Tomorrowland, as well as Het Steen a medieval fortress in the Flemish city.
Furthermore, five sea cruises and 187 river cruises on Antwerp's port accounted for a total of 28,000 passengers.
The city is now looking to the autumn for even more visitors due to the reopening of the Fashion Museum and the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp.
