A rainbow-coloured zebra crossing was vandalised in Anderlecht last weekend after it was covered with black pitch, a type of resin, and had 'non LGBT' written over it.
The crossing in question was located in front of a municipal school on Avenue d'Itterbeek, with the school's children themselves designing the colourful crosswalk before the start of the school year.
Once they discovered it, officials from the municipality of Anderlecht began cleaning it in order to remove the homophobic inscription and filed a complaint to the police.

“This kind of vandalism is a direct attack on our values of openness, respect and inclusion”, the municipality deplored in a statement.
Adding that “we promise that this pedestrian crossing will be repaired and that a complaint will be lodged with the police. No act of this nature must go unpunished.”
