The Pro League, Belgium's professional football body, will reduce the duration of stadium lighting in the Belgian Pro League and Challenger Pro League from 16 September to “limit the impact of the energy crisis."
From September 16, stadium lighting for Jupiler Pro League matches will be switched on an hour and a half or two hours before kick-off, compared to three hours currently. Lighting will then be switched off one hour after the final whistle.
“The rise in energy prices affects the whole of society, our families, our businesses, but also our clubs," Lorin Parys, CEO of the Pro League explained. "We are therefore examining together what measures we can still take in order to mitigate the budgetary impact and to use energy more rationally.”
