Polish authorities on Friday distributed iodine tablets to fire brigades across the country against possible radiation exposure from the war in neighbouring Ukraine.
There is no reason to panic, however, according to the Polish authorities, who said the measure was taken in response to fighting around Ukraine's nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhya, the largest in Europe.
It is a routine measure "due to a potential radiation threat that currently does not exist," Deputy Interior Minister Blazej Pobozy told journalists. The tablets will eventually be sent, through the local authorities, to distribution points which, in most cases, will be schools.
Pobozy said there are enough doses for everyone who needs them.
