Since its launch on 1 April, 472 applications have already been submitted to the Promaz heating oil fund, reported Flemish Environment Minister Zuhal Demir.
Since April, owners of leaking and therefore polluting oil tanks can apply for support from Promaz. The fund intervenes in the decontamination of polluted soil, which is normally a very expensive process for private individuals.
It is estimated that there are some 9,500 leaking tanks in Belgium, the vast majority in residential buildings. Besides this curative goal, Promaz also wants to work preventively and counter future soil pollution.
