Netflix will launch its new subscription format with advertising messages in 12 countries in November, but Belgium is not among them.
In France and Germany, the formula will cost €5.99 and €4.99 per month respectively.
Until now, all subscriptions to the American streaming service were free of advertising. However, Netflix lost many customers and hopes to generate additional revenue with the advertising model.
Competitor Disney will soon also show advertisements with its cheapest streaming subscriptions.
Netflix will first launch the basic subscription with advertising in 12 countries, including the USA, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. The rates vary from country to country, but are much lower than for the cheapest ad-free formula.
Every hour there will be four to five minutes of advertising, the company says. These are spots of 15 to 30 seconds each.
The messages do not only come before the start of the films and series, but also halfway through them.
