On Monday morning, the natural gas price in Europe fell by 10% to the symbolic limit of €100 per Megawatt-hour (MWh) on the leading Dutch TTF market – the lowest since June.
While this is the lowest price since before the summer, it is still more than twice as high as the same period last year.
Unseasonably mild temperatures and replenished gas supplies are easing the biggest concerns about gas shortages this winter. Then again, significant cold in the remaining months of the year could push prices up again considerably.
Around noon, the gas price even fell below the €100-mark per Megawatt-hour. In the meantime, the market is looking forward to more details on the temporary price corridor, which European leaders agreed on last week.
