A protest will be held in front of the European Parliament on Tuesday against Uber, led by the European Trade Union Confederation, with the Belgian transport union ABVV-BTB among the participants despite reaching a "historic agreement" with Uber last week.
Following the revelation of the Uber files this summer, hearings are currently taking place in the European Parliament on the working conditions of Uber drivers and Uber's lobbying practices.
Furthermore, the European Trade Union Confederation will stage a protest in front of the European Parliament on Tuesday to denounce what they see as the multinational's continuous 'exploitation' of employees.
Among those participating is the Belgian union CSC, which stated that they "refuse to fall into the trap established by the multinational," which defines drivers as "workers without rights."

Before adding that "if this scenario persists, it will surely extend to all sectors of the economy and all companies," and suggesting that drivers should be paid at least twice as much to have the same rights as other employees.
The socialist union ABVV-BTB is also taking part, despite reaching a deal with Uber last week to recognise the union as representatives of the platform's self-employed employees and begin conciliatory conversations for improved working conditions.
While the union's participation came as a surprise to many, Tom Peeters, deputy to ABVV-BTB's federal secretary, explained that Tuesday's action is "not against Uber, but for better legislation," and will therefore be participating.
