A new explosion was heard late on Wednesday night in the district of Wilrijk in Antwerp. This is the second explosion to occur on the same street, Pieter Van Passenstraat, within a week. A house and several parked vehicles in the vicinity have sustained damage.
Forensic teams are now investigating the site of the attack to determine what type of explosive was used. The police will carry out their own investigation to gather more information on suspects and circumstances, an Antwerp police spokesperson said.
Last weekend on the very same street, the house of a woman in her nineties was badly damaged by another explosion. No one was injured in the blast. Police state that the woman obviously had no connection to the drug trade. Most likely, her home was targeted in a case of mistaken identity.
