Zoom, which enables users to organise meetings online, has announced that its subscribers will now be able to receive emails through the service.

It will also be complemented by a calendar, allowing users to keep their own agenda.

With these updates, announced on Tuesday, the company, whose full name is Zoom Video Communications, aims to compete more with Microsoft’s Teams and Google’s Meet. According to Zoom, the new features can save people four hours in an average work week if they do not need to go through other services for mail and calendar notifications.

Zoom Video Communications was founded in 2011. The number of its users skyrocketed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Almost overnight, millions of people around the world had to work from home to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

By December 2019, a total of about 10 million participants were meeting daily via Zoom. By April 2020, this number had risen to over 300 million. More recent figures are not available.

Today, Zoom has over 6,300 employees. It is headquartered in the US city of San Jose and is listed on the Nasdaq technology exchange in New York.
