Following in the footsteps of 'Itsme,' myID.be is the latest identification app to reach the Belgian market, allowing Belgians to access public services online.
Since Wednesday, all Belgians have been able to utilise the smartphone app myID.be. Users can authenticate themselves by scanning a QR code with their smartphone or tablet.
Belgians may now use myID.be, a new digital authentication tool, to access commercial and government services.
Activation is accomplished by passing one's identity card through an e-card reader, which activates the app. Citizens must then scan a QR code and enter a five-digit PIN code to verify their identity.

After that, the card reader is no longer needed, and users will simply need to use the app to log in to the chosen private or public service.
Erik van Mileghem, General Director of the app's developer U2U Consult, stated that "it was time for a second credible player to enter the Belgian authentication industry, in order to minimise the risks of a monopoly."
