Eighty-year-old fatally hit by car in Tamines

An eighty-year-old living in Vitrival (Fosses-la-Ville) was fatally struck by a car early Friday evening in Tamines, in the municipality of Sambreville, according to the fire brigade of the Val de Sambre area.

The accident occurred on Avenue des Français, near the Colombo shop.

The pedestrian crossed the street to reach his vehicle. However, the car driver did not see him in time and was unable to avoid the impact.

The exact circumstances remain to be determined, said Marc Gilbert, chief of staff of the Val de Sambre rescue zone. An investigation is underway.

Other traffic incidents in the area

In a separate incident, in the night from Thursday to Friday, around 1:45am, an accident occurred on Rue du Tram in Velaine-sur-Sambre.

A Volkswagen Polo coming from Tamines hit three parked cars with such force that the car was found upside down in the middle of the street.

The incidents are not believed to be connected.
