Traffic on the Brussels 1 and 5 metro lines had been severely disrupted on Friday evening due to an accident involving a person, public transport company STIB announced on its social media channels.

Lines 1 and 5 were interrupted between the stations Arts-Loi/Kunst-Wet and Étangs Noirs/Zwarte Vijvers (in the direction of West Station and Erasmus). In the other direction (towards Stockel and Herrmann-Debroux), traffic was at a standstill between the stations Beekkant and Arts-Loi/Kunst-Wet.

STIB confirmed just before 19:00 that normal service had resumed on all affected metro and bus lines.

The Brussels fire brigade and police both confirmed STIB's information about the reason for the disruptions, clarifying that the incident involved one person on the metro tracks. The condition of the victim is not yet known.

At around 18:45, STIB confirmed that a number of bus lines (29, 38, 63, 65, 66 and 71) had been briefly disrupted but are operating as normal again.
