A fire broke out on Wednesday morning at the Aténée Vauban school in Charleroi, RTL Info reports. Firefighters received calls at around 10:20 that black smoke was coming out of the roof of the building located on Charleroi’s rue Tumelaire.

The fire is said to have been caused by construction workers who were working on the roof with a blowtorch. 900 of the school's 1,800 pupils were evacuated to three separate sites, mostly as a preventative measure.

The fire was quickly brought under control by local firefighters. Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene, again largely as a preventative measure.
