Disruptions are expected at Charleroi Airport on Friday due to a protest action by the police, the CGSP trade union federation warned on Thursday, urging travellers to get there earlier.

The action is expected to have less impact on Brussels Airport.

From 7 a.m. in Charleroi, a filtering barrier will be set up, border controls will be reinforced, and pickets will be set up at the airport's accesses.

At Zaventem, Brussels Airport and the unions indicate that the action will not cause any disruption for travellers as it will be limited to the distribution of leaflets presenting the demands of the police.

However, the CGSP does not rule out stricter controls and therefore a slightly longer waiting time.

“The idea is not to make people miss their planes,” said CGSP's Eddy Quaino. “We invite travellers to make arrangements to arrive early at the airport."

The police unions are taking action because they accuse the government of failing to keep its promises on salaries and end-of-career arrangements.

The CGSP warns that the movement will strengthen in January.
