The capital's regional crisis centre (RCCR) will be activated on New Year’s Eve, it was announced on Friday. Run by the regional agency safe.brussels, the RCCR coordinates the security services and will closely monitor this weekend's events.
“New Year’s Eve is traditionally a busy night for emergency services, as partygoers bring their share of small accidents" stated Frédéric De Fays and Pascal Rosière, federal inspectors of the FPS Public Health, when asked about plans ahead of the weekend festivities.
As a result, additional resources have been allocated across the region to for the night of 31 December, as well as seven extra ambulances. Furthermore, the region announced on Friday that they would be activating Brussels' RCCR.

Sophie Lavaux, director at safe.brussels, explained that the RCCR "will follow the progress of the evening from the regional crisis centre in real-time to react immediately and take the necessary measures if needed."
In particular, the agency will check that the regional ban on private fireworks is respected "to avoid overloading hospitals and our ambulances,” explained Tanguy du Bus de Warnaffe, Chief Officer of the Brussels Fire Brigade.
