This weekend will see the 15th edition of the 'Weekend against drink-driving' – an annual initiative carried out by the Federal Highway Police. The measures will be in place from Friday 13 January at 18:00 to Monday 16 January at 06:00.
The previous edition was in June 2022 and found that 2.15% of the drivers who were checked were driving under the influence of alcohol – slightly less than the 2.29% recorded in January 2022.
The police hope to achieve a much lower number this time by announcing the initiative ahead of time. Ultimately, the aim is to achieve a much lower result and find closer to 0% of drivers behind the wheel of a car under the influence.

"It is never too late to designate a BOB or opt for a safe alternative," an announcement read. The results of the action will be announced on Tuesday.
BOB is the common term in Belgium for the designated driver who refrains from drinking alcohol.
